Story has the power to heal and advance everyone, no matter who you are… no matter where you live. Fireside International is committed to keeping everyone in the conversation, whether at home or abroad. We do this domestically by hosting workshops, speaking at community and corporate events, funding and participating in local storytelling initiatives, and providing online resources. Here’s a brief description of a new initiative that promotes creativity and self-discovery right here in Anderson, Indiana:
Fireside International and Park Place Community Center will be partnering together to teach storytelling & media skills through a new storytelling series. The series highlights the value of Story, and its potential to educate, heal and empower individuals. This series starts on 26th February till 3rd May 2013. This pilot program is currently filled up to capacity.
This will take place at After School Fun with eleven and twelve-year-old students. The goal of this project will be to provide students a playful and creative space to enhance and expand their visual & written communication skills, gain a sense of self, and to discover and tell their own stories.
Communication is a necessary tool that allows individuals to perform better at school or at work. It also encourages people to use words or art to creatively transform their pain. Our long-term goal is to create a model that can be replicated by other instructors and non-profits in Madison County.
Plan to join us on Sunday, May 5th at 1 pm at the Park Place Community Center to celebrate the stories of the children of this city at our Story Exhibition & Dessert Reception.
Pictures and stories will be archived and shared with the community through our blog, www.storytellersofanderson.tumblr.com
