The Caribbean Institute Of Media Technologies (CIMT) is a first-of-its-kind media training program that has been operating in various capacities in Haiti for several years. Now, through a partnership with Radio 4VEH, we are so pleased to announce our new, state of the art facility.
After hanging this poster two weeks ago, we now have more than 80 people signed up to take our technology workshops! Workshops will include (but not be limited to) computer-based English language learning, video production, photography, video and filmmaking, editing, blogging, real-time web, graphic design, audio production, journalism, and more!
To say that people are eager would be a gross understatement. Every time we come to the office, there are scraps of paper stuck in the door jam, each carrying the name and contact info of someone who stopped by while we were away. The CIMT phone is ringing regularly.
Just today, the desks were finished and we loaded them into the classroom, set up the workstations, mopped the floor, and sat back, happy as could be at this tremendous accomplishment. Thanks to all of you who played a significant part in this! Have a peek at how great things are looking!
Workshops will be available to the general population for a modest fee. From there, students who display an advanced capacity for the material being taught may also be invited to participate in the “CIMT Apprenticeship Program.” In this program, participants will be able to further-refine their skills while working on educational videos for “The Learning Village” project. Through this model, educational content is being made “by Haitians, for Haitians” while simultaneously providing expert training to those with exceptional talent.
This is just one more way that we are showing your donated dollars at work! Make no mistake, your involvement is being transformed into lasting and real opportunities for the people of Haiti.
Stay tuned for more as this develops!
